What can you do with a degree in kinesiology? There is a lot of information about kinesiology, including some rather strong opinions on the subject. It makes sense that there would be–kinesiology is a course of study, and a practice, in which students and practitioners learn how to help other people move better. So, it’s important, right?

Physical therapist assistants typically need at least a two-year associate’s degree, and their course load will be very similar to that of their bachelor-level counterparts. Some schools may require a more advanced degree, although they are becoming less common.

Kinesiology is a branch of science and health that focuses on human movement, both in terms of the mechanics of movement and how the body reacts to movement. That’s where the similarities end. In the world of fitness, kinesiology is often misunderstood.

The main misconception about kinesiology is that it’s an exercise science course. It’s essentially the opposite of that. Kinesiology isn’t really about having a lean body or bulging biceps. It’s about understanding your body to help you move better and feel better.

How to get started?

The exact requirements will vary by state and school—some may require every student to take a particular credit in chemistry and biology, while others may allow students to substitute kinesiology courses for these requirements. It is vital to check with your school’s admissions department before choosing courses to ensure you are fulfilling all necessary requirements.

I was a little worried after reading a recent article in The Atlantic titled “What Can You Do With a History Degree?” The author, Derek Thompson, argues that the value of a college degree has diminished as the supply of educated workers has increased.

I earned a degree in kinesiology and exercise science in college, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I spend a lot of time getting questioned about the value of what I learned in my program.

Online commenters will often ask me how I plan to use my degree in kinesiology. And exercise science, or if it even matters that it’s in kinesiology and exercise science. There are a lot of times that I am the one asking myself these same questions.

According to a new survey of 5,000 college graduates conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of CareerBuilder.

The survey found that three in five students who earned undergraduate degrees in kinesiology and exercise science had at least one job offer before graduating.

Nearly two-thirds of students who earned a kinesiology degree said they find working in the field rewarding, compared with just 45 per cent of all other college graduates. And, they are paid well to boot. 

Jobs you can get with the degree in kinesiology;

• Orthopedic surgeon.

• Physical therapist.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, exercise physiologists make a median annual salary of $54,550 in the United States.

Is it good to major in Kinesiology to become a Physical Therapist?

So I have been very stressed about what I want to do when I graduate from college. I am a senior in college and have been majoring in kinesiology with a concentration in physical therapy. 

I have always wanted to be a physical therapist and thought about pursuing other majors, but for some reason, Kinesiology was the perfect fit for me. 

At first, it seemed like a great major because I could take all of the courses I needed. 

Now that the classes are piling up, it’s getting hard to find time to take those courses without stressing out or choosing between taking an easy or difficult class. Has anyone ever been through this? Or am I just overthinking it?

When you’re in college, there’s a lot of pressure to choose the right major. You’ll have to make important decisions like what kind of major you think you can work with or whether it’s even possible to get into your preferred career path with the major you’re choosing.

Go your passion. Don’t do something you’re going to hate for the rest of your life. It’s always fun to be a happy person.
